Kirsten Drotner is dr.phil. and professor at the Dept. of Literature, Culture and Media Studies, University of Southern Denmark.

Her research areas include media history, audience studies, methodology, and youthful media culture, and she has written widely in Danish within her research areas.

In English, she has (co)authored English Children and Their Magazines, 1751-1945 (Yale UP 1988) and Researching Audiences (Arnold 2003), just as she has contributed to a number of anthologies and scholarly journals.

Over the years, she has served in a number of counselling capacities on national, nordic and wider European cultural, media and research committees. She is founding director of Centre for Child and Youth Media Studies (1994-) and of DREAM (Danish Research Centre on Education and Advanced Media Materials, 2004-). In addition, she serves as chairperson of the Danish Research Council for the Humanities.
