Excursion to the IT City of Katrinebjerg

The IT City of Katrinebjerg is the dynamic and innovative IT environment in the Aarhus region. It is the place where small and large companies, researchers and students meet and inspire each other crosswisely in an interdisciplinary, creative and open network. During the excursion we will visit the Centre for Advanced Visualization and Interaction, CAVI (link: www.cavi.dk). CAVI offers a wide variety of 3D-technologies, for example panorama cinema, holobench and a virtual studio. These facilities are used both for teaching and research and for projects with companies and institutions outside the university. After visiting CAVI we will visit another interdisciplinary research center - InteractiveSpaces. InteractiveSpaces bring together architecture, engineering, and computer science with the research mission to create new concepts for future interactive spaces in different application domains including libraries, schools, museums, homes and specific workplaces.

Excursion to The Old Town
City Sight-Seeing with a visit at “The Old Town”, Saturday 6th of May at 10:00 – 13.00.
We leave the hotel by bus and the tour introduces some of the city’s sights, and gives you a first-hand impression of its attractions. We pass the newly restored Aarhus Cathedral which was commenced in the year 1201 in the Romanesque style. In the period 1450-1520 the church was enlarged to a Gothic cathedral and equipped with an altarpiece, a baptismal font, and frescoes. En route we see the Aarhus Harbour and drive through University campus, where we get a glimpse of the three museums situated here. We will also pass Marselisborg Palace, Queen Margrethe II’s summer residence. If time and weather is perfect we will take a walk in the park.

Finally, we arrive at “The Old Town” which is an open-air museum with half-timbered houses from all over Denmark. It is Denmark’s National Museum of Urban History, the biggest museum in Jutland with unique collections of toys, silver, china, clothes, clocks and watches; with steets and yards, workshops and shops reflecting life from 1600 up to our great-grand-parents’ days. Coffee and cake are served at Simonsens Have.

The bus will take you back to the Scandic Hotel Plaza, by the railway station, where we will arrive at 13:00.
A multilingual guide will accompany you on the tour.

Min. 20 participants for this excursion.
