Brugernes Bibliotek More -->> The Loosely Coupled Library illustrates a library concept with a newmindset and organization structure for future libraries. Based on the consequences that the network society – including the development of social technologies – has on library activities, the idea of the Loosely Coupled Library is build on the assumption that the libraries of today have to alter their self understanding and area of expertise to be able to offer services reflecting quality, topical interest, and versatility in the society of tomorrow.
The Loosely Coupled Library handles topics as: - From service to participation - Interdisciplinary integration as a guarantee for attention to the surrounding environment - The physical library as supplement for the digital library - Small teams, quick development, design for minimal service - Librarians in all, libraries in everything - From information focus to context focus - From material collections to relation collections - The library architecture for participation Openness, communication, and network as a basis for library development
The library concept is a result of the project “Brugernes Bibliotek” which is based on co-operative efforts from Libraries of Roskilde and Libraries of Gladsaxe. The project is concerned with libraries and web 2.0 with a strategic, organizational, and professional focus. The project is a maturing project sponsored by The danish Library Agency (Biblioteksstyrelsen).
