Holder of the Danish academic architectural title and member of the relevant professional body.
Shortly after gaining his Diploma, Kim Holst Jensen (who had been doing work for SHL since 1988) formally joined the practice in 1991. At the turn of the year 1997/1998, he was made a partner, a positive development reflecting SHL’s recognition of the sterling quality of Kim Holst Jensen’s professional contribution.
As an architect, Kim Holst Jensen’s experience spans a broad portfolio, both in terms of diversity of briefs and their geographical location (Denmark, other Scandinavian countries, other European countries, the USA and Asia). He has a sure command of the all the various phases and functions of architecture as a discipline (from concept-planning to construction) and jointly with his three practice partners he is actively involved in the design aspect of every project. Accordingly, he played a key role in the design of the Culture Centre in Nuuk, Greenland, and functioning as chief design/project architect on the extension of the Royal Library in Copenhagen as well as heading design and project development for Nykredit’s new head office on the Copenhagen waterfront and the first three completed phases of the DGI-City sports and leisure centre, also in Copenhagen.
Currently, his particular remit involves heading SHL’s competition, design and communications sections. In that capacity, Kim Holst Jensen has assumed responsibility for a panoply of development projects and international competitions for cultural buildings, including the competition proposal for Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, a playhouse for the Royal Theatre and a concert hall for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation in Copenhagen, the National Library in Oslo, the National Archives in Luxembourg, NATO’s new headquarters in Brussels, and an art museum plus plaza in Middlesbrough.
Furthermore, he has had overall responsibility for a raft of projects that have resulted in first prizes, such as the new library in Halmstad, Sweden, Birkerød Sports and Recreation Centre as well as the new Aarhus Art Museum ARoS. As project and design architect he has been responsible for the execution of a raft of successful competition proposals and development projects.
Kim Holst Jensen is currently design/project architect for Halmstad’s new library (project planning just completed), the fourth extension phase of the buzzing multi-faceted facility, DGI-City sports and leisure centre, as well as the Birkerød Sports and Recreation Centre.
A partner in SHL, Kim Holst Jensen is the joint recipient of an array of Danish and international awards.
In recognition of his contribution to architecture, Kim Holst Jensen has received the Danish Arts Foundation’s Architectural Scholarship as well as the Architect Fritz Scheegel’s Scholarship, 1997. He has likewise attained membership of the Fellows of the Royal Academy’s Artists’ Society (Kunstnersamfund), served on the Federation of Danish Architects’ Competition Committee 2002-2002 and sits on Nykredit’s Architecture Award Committee.
