- How to create cohesion in daily life for children and young people in an urban area
More-->>
In the area of Gellerup public schools, kindergarden, after-school, athletic associations, library and sports hall are working together to create cohesion in the daily life for children and young people. The starting point is therefore never to work alone but always work together with other partners and volunteers in point of making active citizenship and equal status.
Through the last 7 years the Library in Gellerup have been working with different projects stimulating language skills such as: suitcases with different books, CD’s, DVD’s etc. called “Leg-se-lyt” – draw up suitcases with a certain subject: Friends – and one experiment with establishment a Library in a Kindergarten. Furthermore the Library offers help with homework for the children and young people. The helping group consists of a group of young students who four times a week offer help with homework free of charge to children and young people, whether they attend a language school, are preparing for the theoretical part of their driving test, attend primary or secondary school. It is also available to people who are starting upper secondary school or a commercial education.
Unfortunately many young people are dropping out schools either it is secondary school upper secondary school or a commercial education. To prevent the teenager just walking around without school or job the Library offer help with layout of a letter and proof-reading of applications, written or telephonic contact to employers for further information about a job and help to look for jobs in various job bases. It could also be assistance in working out a CV or basic registration on the Labour Exchange’s web site. This offer is called The Job Corner. The Job Corner’s strong point is, that it is independent of the general case officer environment. You can just drop in – informally and anonymously and obtain friendly advice.
